Since 2005, La petite fanfare has been a provider of quality music teaching in the heart of Chelsea. Its day camps aim to pursue this tradition of quality.
La petite fanfare music camps in Chelsea are bilingual one-week day camps for children
aged 5 to 12 (age on Sept. 1). Each child develops his or her taste for music and improves his or her instrumental abilities. Every day, a private class gives the camper the possibility to progress in the practical knowledge of his or her instrument of choice.
Using École du Grand-Boisé’s facilities and grounds on Scott Road, in Chelsea, La petite fanfare music camps provide a positive, creative and safe music learning environment.
The camp’s regular activities comprise instrument learning, choir practice, and rythm workshops. Physical activities and games are held outside everyday.
Beginner musicians: the child explores one instrument of his or her choice. Each day s/he attends a private class with a music teacher and takes part in small ensemble workshops. The child dominates the core competencies of his instrument by the end of the camp. The teachers are the regular teachers of La petite fanfare. The instruments are provided by La petite fanfare.
Experienced musicians: children who already play continue their instruction. This instruction is in the form of private lessons and small groups of instrumentalists. The teachers are the regular teachers of La petite fanfare. The instruments are provided by La petite fanfare.
Workshops: choral singing and rhythmics as a group
Each day, all children discover their inner singer through choral singing workshops. These workshops teach breathing technique, active listening and voice placement. This is when we learn some of the songs that will be incorporated in the musical show at the end of camp. Children also learn various rhythms by using their hands, feet and some percussion instruments. Here as well, the rhythms that have been learned are integrated into the final show.
Music is fun
Let’s not forget that summer also means holiday time. Several times a day we play outside. We have the schoolyard and the woods at the back of the school to ourselves! We try to integrate rhythm and music into games. Music really is fun!
